An investigation was opened against BirGün Daily due to the news they covered on the ISIS massacre at a prominent nightclub in Istanbul, Reina, on 1 January 2017.
39 people have lost their lives in the massacre due to the fire opened on people who were celebrating the New Year’s Eve in the nightclub located in Ortaköy. BirGün Daily was published the next day, on January 2nd, with the headline, “Reactionary darkness poisons new year;” Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office started an investigation against the newspaper due to the headline.
